It is only natural for us divers to want our children to be divers as well.  But if their initial experience is not fun then they are unlikely to want to continue with diving.  Whenever someone tries something for the first time, if the experience is fun and enjoyable then they are much more likely to continue with that activity.

The most common problem that children face as divers is equipment that just does not fit well.  It is only natural to want kids to try scuba diving before investing in the cost of equipment, but ill fitted equipment very often spells an experience that is just not fun and means that the child will not want to become a diver.

If the hose is too long the regulator will tend to pop out of the child's mouth every time that they try and look right or left.

It is definitely not fun to have to go through an entire dive while holding the regulator in your mouth.

Besides a small mouthpiece a regulator for a child should have shorter hoses on the second stage and possibly on the gauge console as well.
